Biographical Information[edit]

Jae-young Shin pitched for the South Korean team in the 2009 Baseball World Cup. The Dankook University student faced two batters, retiring one and giving up one hit; he was the least-used Korean hurler in their 10 games. The NC Dinos took him in the 8th round of the 2012 KBO draft. Before he ever pitched for NC, he was traded with Shin-young Song to the Nexen Heroes for Seok-hoon Ji, Chang-seop Lee and Jung-joon Park.

Shin did not make his Korea Baseball Organization debut until 2016 (serving his two years of military service first) but then he broke in with a splash, going 15-7 with a 3.90 ERA. He was 7th in ERA (between Michael Bowden and Jae-kuk Ryu, both former major leaguers) and tied Hector Noesi, Won-jun Chang and Hee-kwan Yoo for third in the league in wins, behind Dustin Nippert and Bowden. He easily won KBO Rookie of the Year, with 90 first-place votes; Kwon Ju was second with two.
