Biographical Information[edit]
Jae-bok Jung pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization and for the South Korean national team.
While in college, he was with South Korea for the 2002 Asian Games, tossing eight shutout innings with four hits, no walks and no runs while whiffing eleven for the Gold Medal winners. He got the win over the Philippines. [1] That exempted him from South Korea's otherwise mandatory military service. He was drafted by the LG Twins. [2]
Jung pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings in the 2003 KBO. In 2004, he was 4-4 with two saves and a 5.13 ERA. He went 5-3 with 4 saves and a 4.10 ERA in 65 games pitched the next year. He was 6th in the league in appearances and 3rd in holds (14). <ref> KBO page Moving to the rotation, he had a 7-10, 3.59 record in 2006.
In 2007, he was 6-5 with a save and a 4.42 ERA. A full-time reliever again by 2008, he went 4-10 with 13 saves and a 3.89 ERA. He tied for 9th in games pitched (55) and was 6th in saves. Back as a starter, he fell to 2-5, 6.69 in 2009. He was a reliever in 2010 (1-1, 5.87 in 16 G), did not pitch the next year and was 2-1 with a 5.64 ERA in 2012.
Overall, he was 31-39 with 20 saves and a 4.57 ERA in 278 games (71 starts).
He later was a minor league coach for the Nexen Heroes.
