Biographical Information[edit]
First baseman Jack Sanford played for the Washington Senators in 1940 and 1941. After serving in the Air Force during World War II, he returned to the Senators briefly in 1946. After his playing career ended, he earned a masters degree and Ph.D. He also was baseball coach at Elon College (1957-1966) and Atlantic Christian College.
Sanford's brother Taylor Sanford played in the minor leagues from 1934 to 1946 and coached Wake Forest University to the 1955 College World Series championship.
