Biographical Information[edit]
Jack Harper was born in Hendricks, WV, a small town not far from the Maryland border. He attended Marshall University in the same state, and was the first major leaguer to come from that school.
He is listed as being at Marshall during 1912-14, and then in 1914 he pitched for the Greensboro Patriots, a below-.500 team for whom he went 15-15. He came to the majors for three games in April, 1915 with the 1915 Philadelphia Athletics, posting an excellent WHIP of 0.692 and an ERA of 3.12. However, that was the extent of his major league career.
He played at least 5 more seasons in the minors.
He is not to be confused with an earlier Jack Harper. He should also not be confused with another Harper who pitched in the 1915 American League, Harry Harper.
