Biographical Information[edit]

The first major leaguer with the last name Compton, Pete Compton, made his debut on September 6, 1911 with a start in the outfield for the St. Louis Browns. The next day, Jack Compton made his debut with two innings of work on the hill for the Cincinnati Reds. He was busy, pitching eight games during his three weeks in the majors to the tune of a career 0-1, 3.91 record. Jack had been 22-6 with the Dayton Veterans in 1911, returning to Dayton from 1912-1915 with a 20-7 mark in 1914. He was player-manager in 1915. Compton was born, and died, in Lancaster, OH, roughly 100 miles from Dayton.
