Biographical Information[edit]
The son of Angel Aragon, Cuban-born catcher Jack Aragón spent 1937 with the Greenwood Giants of the Class C Cotton States League, and in 1938 was with the Blytheville Giants of the Class D Northeast Arkansas League, leading the circuit in RBI. The 1939 season was split between the Winston-Salem Twins of the Class B Piedmont League, the Knoxville Smokies of the Class A1 Southern Association, and the Salisbury Giants of the Class D North Carolina State League. The next year, he was with the Ft. Smith Giants in the Class C Western Association.
In 1941, he was listed as the batting practice catcher for the Giants, and appeared in one game on August 13, 1941, as a pinch runner. On September 4, 1942, he joined the Coast Guard in New York City and was stationed at the Ellis Island, NY, Receiving Station, where he played baseball. He was sent to Electrician’s Mates School and on January 15, 1944 was discharged at Ellis Island as an Electrician‘s Mate 3c.
Aragón played the 1944 season with the Minneapolis Millers of the Class AA American Association. He continued to play and manage in the minor leagues through the 1952 season. He served as general manager for both the Knoxville Smokies and Maryville-Alcoa Twins between 1952 and 1954.
