The son of big leaguer John Pacella, pitcher J.J. Pacella played several seasons of minor league ball.

After attending Kent State University, Pacella began his pro career in 2007, appearing in 3 games for the River City Rascals of the independent Frontier League. He then signed with the Houston Astros organization and spent a year and a half in their chain. Spending most of 2008 with the Lexington Legends, he recorded 12 saves for the club, and he notched 9 saves for the Lancaster JetHawks in 2009 before being released by the Astros. He went on to play through 2011 in various independent leagues.

Pacella is currently an instructor at Big League Baseball School in Worthington, Ohio.
