Biographical Information[edit]

Irving Ortega has played in the minors and for the Dominican national team.

He was signed by Baltimore Orioles scouts Fred Ferreira, Enrique Constante and Ozzie Durand. [1] He split 2015 between the DSL Orioles 1 (.280/.370/.380 in 54 G) and GCL Orioles (0 for 3, 3 BB). He fielded .948 at short. In 2016, he was with the GCL Orioles (.269/.333/.336 in 40 G) and Aberdeen Ironbirds (6 for 29, 3 BB, 2B). He improved his fielding to .959, but it fell to .910 in 2017, which he spent 2017 between Aberdeen (.216/.298/.324 in 35 G) and the Delmarva Shorebirds (.167/.224/.185 in 17 G).

In 2018, he was with Aberdeen (5 for 18, 3B, 2 BB) and the GCL Orioles (.247/.333/.259 in 23 G). The next summer, he was with Aberdeen yet again (.205/.311/.269 in 28 G) and the Frederick Keys (5 for 20, 2B, BB). He had batted .242/.326/.312 as a pro, fielding .946 at short and seeing a little action at third and second.

He then played for the Dominicans in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. He debuted as a pinch-runner for Carlos Paulino and came around to score. His first at-bat was a single off Venezuela's Sonny Vargas. He pinch-ran in three of his six games, going 1-for-4 with two runs, and handling six chances error-free between second and third.
