Biographical Information[edit]
Isaac Marion "Ike" Davis was the regular shortstop on the Chicago White Sox in 1925, forming a double play combo with the 38-year-old player-manager Eddie Collins. Davis also played in the majors in 1919 and 1924.
Davis was born in Pueblo, CO, one of three major leaguers through 2009 born there (the other two are Frank Papish and Mike Stenhouse).
He played eight games with the Washington Senators in 1919 but spent most of 1919 with the Minneapolis Millers.
Prior to coming up to the White Sox in 1924, Ike played with the Columbus Solons from 1922 to 1924.
Ike was among the American League leaders in several categories in 1925 with the White Sox: he was eighth in runs scored, tenth in walks, fourth in stolen bases, eighth in hit-by-pitch, second in sacrifice hits and third in assists at shortstop. However, he also led the league in errors, was fourth in strikeouts and was fifth in caught stealing.
He is not to be confused with the more recent Ike Davis.
