Ihor Cornomaz was the starting shortstop for the Ukrainian national team in the 2001 European Championship. He hit .364/.440/.500 with six runs in seven games, fielding .917. He led the team in average (.031 ahead of Serniy Bolihy and Kostyantya Bushev), runs (tied with Kostyantya Tarsenko), hits (one ahead of Ruslan Deykun) and OBP (.011 ahead of Bolihy) while his three doubles were second (one behind Deykun) and he was second to Tarsenko in OPS. He tied for 9th in the event in runs and tied for 10th in errors (3). Despite that performance, he did not play for Ukraine again.
