Biographical Information[edit]
Ruslan Deykun scored the winning run for the Ukraine in their first win of the 1997 European Championship, against Great Britain. He was the top power threat for the Ukraine in the 2001 European Championship, hitting .304/.360/.609 with the club's lone homer and a team-best 9 RBI. The first baseman tied for second in the event in RBI and tied for 4th with four doubles. He struggled in the 2005 European Championship at .130/.167/.174 and a .789 fielding percentage, with more errors (4) than hits (3) in 7 games.
Deykun was the oldest Ukrainian player at the 2007 European Championship. He was 2 for 21 with a double and 3 walks, alternating between DH and first base. He went 3 for 17 with four walks in the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers. He is back with the Ukraine for the 2010 European Championship.
