Biographical Information[edit]
Hyo-seung Ryu has played in the KBO and for the South Korean national team.
Ryu represented South Korea in the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup and 2019 Asian Championship. In the latter event, he was 1-for-4 against China as the starting designated hitter, and he went 0-for-2 versus Pakistan. Ryu collected a double and a single in 3 at-bats against the Philippines, and he had a 0-for-2 record with 2 walks against Chinese Taipei. He went 0-for-3 against Japan, and he was 0-for-3 against China in the Bronze Medal Game; Korea lost by a 8-6 score. [1]
The SK Wyverns selected him in the 6th round of the 2020 KBO draft, and he stayed in the minors for most of his first two seasons as he only played 8 games with the big club in 2020. [2] He missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons due to military service, and he was 0-for-3 with the big club after returning in 2023. Ryu was placed in the minors again in 2024, and he only had one appearance with the top team.
