Biographical Information[edit]

Southpaw Hyo-joon Ko has been noted for high walk and strikeout rates in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Drafted by the Lotte Giants, he did not allow an earned run in 3 innings in 2002. He was let go and signed by the SK Wyverns. In 2004, he was 2-1 with a 5.96 ERA and 47 walks in 45 1/3 IP. For the 2005 Wyverns, Ko went 4-4 with a 3.59 ERA despite 63 walks in 57 2/3 IP; he struck out 67 and gave up only 28 hits.

Ko was 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA in 2006, walking 36 in 23 innings. In 2007, he gave up one run in 1 2/3 IP. He tossed one shutout inning in 2008. He saw a vast increase in workload in 2009, going 11-10 with 2 saves and a 4.33 ERA. He whiffed 152 in 126 2/3 innings and yielded only 98 hits but walked 81. He was third in the league in Ks behind Hyun-jin Ryu and Jeong-hoon Cho and second in walks, 28 behind former major leaguer Francisco Cruceta.

Through 2009, Ko has a 17-17, 4.84 record in 111 KBO games. He has walked 243 and struck out 284 in 258 1/3 innings.
