Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Hunter Bishop was the 1st round pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2019 amateur draft, out of Arizona State University, the 10th player selected overall. He truly blossomed during his final season with the Sun Devils, when he belted 16 doubles and 22 homers and drove in 63 runs while scoring 67 in 57 games. He had earlier been a 24th round selection by the San Diego Padres in 2016, upon graduating from high school.

He began his professional career in 2019 with the AZL Giants Orange and after 7 games was promoted to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League. His combined batting line at the two stops was .229/.438/.429 in 32 games. As a recent top draft pick, he was invited to spend the 2020 season at the Giants' alternate training site, with the minor league shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic, but the saw his 2021 season cut to just 16 games by an injury that felled him less than a week after joining the Eugene Emeralds of the High-A West. As a result, the team with which he played the most games that year was the ACL Giants Black, where he was on a rehabilitation assignment for a week. He also appeared in a couple of games for the San Jose Giants of the Low-A West. For what it's worth given the circumstances, his batting line was .133/.286/.178 in 16 games. At least, he was back healthy in time to appear in the Arizona Fall League, where he batted a more normal .262 in 14 games.

His brother Braden Bishop reached the majors with the Seattle Mariners a few months before he was drafted. Off the field Hunter is a big music enthusiast in general, and a fan of Norwegian DJ Kygo in particular. He took advantage of the layoff forced upon him by the pandemic to invest in music software to develop his own dee-jaying skills and released a first Electronic Dance Music single under the stage name "Bish" later that year and has followed up with other releases since.
