Biographical Information

Outfielder Hugh Shelley spent three months with the Detroit Tigers in 1935, after being purchased from the Beaumont Exporters of the Texas League, from the end of June until the end of the season, but only got into 7 games, going 2 for 8. Given his minimal contribution to the team's success, he was not on the roster when the Tigers won the 1935 World Series in six games over the Chicago Cubs, but did get a third of World Series share and a gold watch. That was the sum total of his big league career. The Tigers were obviously a strong team with a very good outfield and had no place for the youngster to play; he was sent down to the Toledo Mud Hens before the start of the 1936] season and never made it back to the Show.

Notable Achievement

• Won a World Series with the Detroit Tigers in 1935 (he did not play in the World Series)
