Biographical Information[edit]

Hsin-Sheng Cheng played in the CPBL and for the Chinese Taipei national baseball team.

Cheng represented Taiwan in the 1982 Amateur World Series and 1989 World Port Tournament. The Mercuries Tigers signed him when the team was founded in 1990. Although he was 30 years old, Cheng still batted .309/.326/.387 and was selected into the first All-Star Game of the league in 1990. Cheng also set the CPBL record for a 21-game hitting streak from opening day as a rookie. The Taitung native recorded a .277/.317/.362 batting line and participated in the All-Star Game again in 1991. Cheng's batting line slightly declined to .229/.264/.292 in 1992, but the veteran bounced back soon. He hit .259/.313/.313 in 1993, and recorded a .259/.311/.311 batting line in 1994. The Tigers released the 35-year-old Cheng after 1994 season, and this ended his playing career. Cheng then turned into a coach for the Wei Chuan Dragons from 1996 to 1996, worked for Kaoping Fala in 2000, and transferred to the La New Bears from 2003 to 2004.

Overall, Cheng had hit .269/.306/.339 in five seasons in the CPBL.
