Houston Christian University was known as Houston Baptist College until 1973 and Houston Baptist University until September 2022. After spending 1990-2007 at the NAIA level, Houston Baptist began the transition to the NCAA Division-I level in 2008. HBU had sponsored baseball until 1970 before dropping the sport for 20 years.
