Biographical Information[edit]
John Francis "Honey" Barnes went to Colgate University, a college which traditionally has had strong sports programs. In 1924, he was with Barre-Montpelier in the Green Mountain League. Barnes is in the group of players that has a perfect 1.000 OBP in the majors. He played only one game with the 1926 New York Yankees, a game in which Babe Ruth hit a home run off Walter Johnson, although Johnson was no longer pitching in the 9th inning when Barnes came to the plate.
Honey Barnes and Eppie Barnes were at Colgate University at the same time but are not listed as being related. Honey was at Colgate during 1922-1925. Most of his minor league career came with the Buffalo Bisons. After baseball, he was an investigator for the Niagara County Welfare Department [1].
