Home of the Owlz
UCCU Ballpark in Orem, UT, was the home of Orem affiliated baseball from 2005 through 2019. After that and the Coronavirus pandemic-canceled 2020 season, MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization made the Rookie-Advanced Pioneer League an independent circuit.
Simultaneously, the Orem Owlz announced a move to Windsor, CO, to become the Northern Colorado Owlz. As part of the move, they sat out the 2021 campaign while the also-contracted Boise Hawks filled their slot. The Hawks stayed in the circuit when it added the Glacier Range Riders in Kalispell, MT.
UCCU is owned by Utah Valley University, whose baseball Wolverines were its primary team before coming its sole one. The Helena Brewers became the Provo Angels in 2001, using Brigham Young University's Larry H. Miller Field - which seats only around 2,000 - while expecting a new stadium. With then-Utah Valley State College moving to NCAA Division I, the idea of a shared ballpark naturally arose.
Ideas evolve, though, and what emerged was on the campus of - and owned by - the renamed UVU. It opened in 2005, and the newly sold and rebranded Owlz moved in that June. After two naming-rights sales fell through, the Owlz dubbed it "Home of the OWLZ" and ignored UVU's later naming deals including the last of the Affiliated Era with Utah Community Credit Union.
The Owlz' move to Windsor was their second effort toward Colorado. Mount Timpanogos and the Wasatch Range tower, beautifully, beyond the outfield. On June 20, 2018, the Owlz announced a move to Pueblo, in 2020 - still as Owlz. In less than a month, that move fell apart.
