Hitoshi Miyata (宮田 仁)

Biographical Information[edit]

Hitoshi Miyata pitched for the Japan national team in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup, going 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA. He lost to Cuba and José Contreras but got revenge in the Gold Medal Game, when Japan beat Cuba, which had not lost a game for six years and not lost a tournament for 15 years. He relieved Koji Uehara in the 6th, with two outs, and a 8-1 lead, and went the final 3 2/3 innings with one run, four hits, one walk and two whiffs to seal the upset and give Japan the title. He won Gold with Japan in the 1998 Asian Games. He played for the Nissan Motor baseball club from 1997 to 2005.
