Biographical Information

Hiroshi Minohara played seven seasons in Nippon Pro Baseball.

He debuted with the Nankai Hawks in 1950, hitting .223/.306/.325 in 108 games. He batted .257/.325/.330 in 1951. He was 0 for 3 as a backup outfielder for Nankai in the 1951 Japan Series. Becoming a semi-regular in 1952, Hiroshi hit .270/.316/.397 with 12 steals in 18 tries. He was just 2 for 15 with a walk in a starting outfield role in the 1952 Japan Series.

Minohara fell to .220/.267/.314 in 94 games in 1953. In the 1953 Japan Series, the 24-year-old was 6 for 18 with two doubles and two RBI in seven games. He won the first Fighting Spirit Award, given out every year since 1953 to the MVP of the losing side of the Japan Series.

The Fukuoka native hit .239/.297/.354 in 1954. Moving to the Toei Flyers, he put up a .227/.307/.384 line in 1955 but launched a career-high 15 home runs. Minohara produced at a .242/.310/.339 rate in 1956.

Overall, Hiroshi had hit .239/.304/.354 in 802 NPB games.
