Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Hideyuki Mifune played 9 seasons in the Nippon Pro Baseball.

Mifune was drafted by the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks in the second round of the 1989 NPB draft, but he only played 5 games with the big club in his rookie year. He was sent to the United States for a brief time in 1991 to play for the Salinas Spurs of the California League, and he hit .300/.371/.375 in 132 games there. He was 6th in average (between Ruben Santana and Marc Newfield) and was 3rd in runs (behind J.D. Noland and Matt Mieske).

He only had 77 at-bats in 1992 with a .235/.288/.324 batting line, then he was sent to the Hiroshima Carp. As an infield utility man, Mifune hit .287/.336/.380 in 108 at-bats in 1993, but he mainly stayed in the minor league for the next two seasons. He only had 63 at-bats combined, and the 1993 season was the only season that he had more than 100 at-bats. The Carp traded him with Ryo Yoshimoto to the Kintetsu Buffaloes for Satoshi Iriki after the 1996 season, but he only played 12 games for them in 1997, then he announced his retirement in 1998. After his retirement, he went on to become a coach at a baseball academy in Kumamoto.

Overall, Mifune hit .251/.298/.350 with 93 hits in 8 seasons in the NPB.
