Biographical information[edit]
Outfielder Matt Mieske was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 17th Round of the 1990 amateur draft. He was selected as the Northwest League MVP in 1990, his first professional season with the Spokane Indians. He led the league in RBI (63), home runs (12), runs (59), and total bases (155) and finished second in hitting (.340) to teammate Jay Gainer (.356). The following season, 1991, he was selected MVP of the California League while with the High Desert Mavericks.
Mieske led the 1989 Intercontinental Cup with four doubles, one bright spot on a 1-5 Team USA.
