Biographical Information[edit]

Father of Jack Doscher, John Henry "Herm" Doscher played six seasons in the majors and was also a major league umpire. He broke in as a player during the second year of the National Association, 1872. As an umpire, he worked one National League game in 1879, then worked almost full time in 1880 and 1881 even though he also played for the Cleveland Blues the latter year. He returned to umpiring in 1887, then worked in the American Association in 1888 and 1890.

Herm and Jack were the first father and son pro MLB players in history.

Herm played for London in 1877.

According to an article on March 26, 1883 in the New York Times, Doscher was blacklisted in 1882.
