Biographical Information[edit]
Herb Simpson played for the Seattle Steelheads of the West Coast Negro Baseball League in 1946 before spending a few years in the minor leagues from 1952 to 1954.
By then a 31-year-old rookie, Simpson hit .344 with 105 hits in 75 games for the Albuquerque Dukes of the high-offense West Texas-New Mexico League, and .282 in 181 at-bats for the Spokane Indians of the Western International League, in 1952. Overall, he batted .321 with 10 triples and 156 hits in 126 games that year. In 1953, back with Albuquerque, he hit .372 with 119 hits in 81 games and in 1954, he hit .296 with 33 doubles and 10 triples in 132 games for the Dukes. Overall, Simpson batted .324 with 424 hits in 339 games.
He also played for the Birmingham Black Barons and Chicago American Giants.
