Biographical Information

Starting pitcher Henry Perez had a successful, albeit relatively short, career in minor league baseball that spanned from 2007 to 2010. Despite his success, he spent his entire career in the Dominican Summer League, never advancing beyond the Rookie level.

Perez pitched entirely in the Seattle Mariners organization, twirling for the DSL Mariners. He signed in January 2007. The scouts were Patrick Guerrero, Frank Taveras Jr. and Bob Engle. In his first year with the club, 2007, he went 5-4 with a 2.82 ERA in 16 games (14 starts), allowing only 44 hits and one home run in 54.1 innings, while striking out 60 batters. He tied for first in the league in shutouts (1), while tying for second in the loop in starts. He led the DSL Mariners in losses, starts, complete games and shutouts.

In 2008, Perez went 7-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 15 games (11 starts), allowing no home runs and 64 hits in 72 innings, while walking 26 batters and striking out 78. He tied for second in the league in complete games and led his club in wins, complete games and hits allowed.

The following year, Perez went 6-5 with a 3.16 ERA in 15 games (14 starts). He struck out 65 batters and walked 15 in 77 innings, while allowing three home runs and 72 hits. He finished second in the league in complete games, while pacing his squad in losses, complete games, innings pitched, hits allowed, runs allowed, earned runs allowed and batters faced.

2010 was arguably his best season. That year, he went 7-1 (.875 W%) in 11 starts, allowing only 49 hits and no home runs in 73 innings, while striking out 76 batsmen and walking only 10. He posted the second-best ERA in the league, while pacing the loop in complete games and finishing tied for third in shutouts (1). He led his team in wins, starts, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched, strikeouts, batters faced, BB/9 IP ratio and K/BB ratio. He was named to the DSL All-Star team.

Despite his impressive 2010 season, Perez did not pitch in 2011, and is no longer playing in the minor leagues.

Overall, Perez went 25-12 (.676 W%) with a 2.25 ERA in 57 games (50 starts). In 276.1 innings, he allowed only 229 hits, four of which were home runs, while walking 71 batters and striking out 279.
