Biographical Information

Harry Moore was the star of the Washington Nationals in 1884, leading the team by a large margin in batting average and slugging percentage. Moore played 111 games for the Nationals that year. This was the only year he played in the majors.

Bill James calls him the "best of the Union Association regulars" who never played in one of the other major leagues. However, his minor league career was substantial, beginning in 1879 in San Francisco in the Pacific League. He moved east in 1883, playing for Reading of the Interstate Association before moving to Washington the next year. He then went back to California in 1886 and was active there until 1889. He likely settled back in San Francisco, CA, but no further details were known about his life until over a century later, a SABR researcher found his obituary in the San Francisco Chronicle.
