Henry & Me
Henry & Me is an animated, baseball-themed movie released in selected theaters on August 18, 2014. Aimed at a young audience, the film took six years to make and received the full support of the New York Yankees in its production, as the team is central to the movie. It depicts the story of a cancer-stricken boy named Jack who is taken to another world by "Henry", voiced by actor Richard Gere, where he gets to meet Yankee legends such as Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle or Thurman Munson. The experience helps the youngster to face his fears and never give up.
A number of current and former Yankees are also featured in the film, voicing themselves, such as Mariano Rivera, Reggie Jackson and Joe Girardi. Yankees owner Hank Steinbrenner plays his father, George Steinbrenner, while the team's legendary announcer, Bob Sheppard, recorded his lines before passing away in 2010. Disgraced Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez was also scheduled to appear in the film and had recorded his lines, but his role was cut following his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal. The character of Jack is voiced by Austin Williams, a 17-year-old from New Jersey. The film is directed by Barrett Esposito and written by David I. Stern.
