Biographical Information[edit]
Heinz Becker was a German-born player in the bigs during World War II. He hit fairly well for the Chicago Cubs in 1945 and the Cleveland Indians in 1946. He got a pinch-hit single in Game 4 of the 1945 World Series against the Detroit Tigers. With the minor league Milwaukee Brewers in 1944, he hit .346. In 1939, he played for the Tyler Trojans of the East Texas League.
Becker's family - his father, mother and their four boys, including Heinz - emigrated from Germany to Venezuela in 1921. His father failed in an attempt to establish a cattle ranch there, and the family emigrated again, this time to the United States in 1924; they eventually settled in Dallas.
