Biographical Information[edit]
Herman "Heinie" Odom is the possessor of a perfect 1.000 major league batting average. As stated in an article about New York Yankees with perfect batting averages:
"Late in a 10-1 loss to the Washington Senators, he was sent up as a pinch hitter for Joe Dugan. He picked up a single and never played in the majors again." [1]
Odom was born Herman Boyd, according to Wikipedia (12-25-19), changing his name to Odom. He was born, and died, in Rusk, TX, not too far from the border with Louisiana. He was all-Conference shortstop three years in a row (1922-24) while in college.
He is the first major leaguer with the last name Odom. The other two are Blue Moon Odom and Dave Odom.
