Biographical Information

Pennsylvania native Harry Shuman spent nine active seasons in professional baseball from 1936 to 1946. Harry spent parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues in 1942 and 1943 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and 1944 with the Philadelphia Phillies. Over the three-year period, Shuman appeared in thirty games, pitching 50 2/3 innings with a 4.44 ERA. He had no decisions.

Harry spent the rest of his nine years in the game in the minor leagues, with eleven teams. His best numbers came in 1941 with the Harrisburg Senators of the Interstate League, when he went 18-6 with a 2.24 ERA, pitching 237 innings in 36 games. Harry finished out his minor league career in 1946 with a 79-61 record while appearing in 257 games.

Active politically, he worked as a constable for the city of Philadelphia, and became supervisor of sales tax collections for the State Department of Revenue and for the City Veteran's Advisory Council. His last five years, he worked for the Democratic City Committee. Harry died at his desk at work from a heart attack on October 25, 1996. He is Interred at Haym Salomon Memorial Park, Frazer, PA.
