Biographical Information[edit]

Harry Schwarts began umpiring in the Ohio State League in 1946. After being dismissed before the start of the next season, he worked as a semi-pro umpire in Cleveland, OH from 1947 to 1950. He returned to the minors in 1952, in the Piedmont League, and stayed there in 1953. In 1954, he moved to the South Atlantic League. From 1956 to 1960, he worked in the International League. He umpired his first American League game in September of 1960 and within a couple of years, he was appearing in the first All-Star Game of 1962. During that season, he was behind home plate for two different no-hitters, pitched by Bo Belinsky on May 5th and Earl Wilson on June 26th. Sadly, he died at age 44 in February 1963.
