Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Harry O'Neill appeared in one game as a catcher for the Philadelphia Athletics on July 23, 1939.
Harry caught for the Harrisburg Senators of the class B Interstate League in 1940. He appeared in 16 games with 42 at-bats and 10 hits, including one home run, for a career .238 batting average.
O'Neill was a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and was killed at age 27 on March 6, 1945 in the Battle for Iwo Jima. He was the second of only two major league players to be killed during World War II.
He was inducted into the Gettysburg College Hall of Honor in 1980 [1].
