Biographical Information[edit]

Harry Clarke was primarily an actor. His foray into big league ball came when the Washington Nationals lost two players to injury in the first half of a doubleheader on August 28, 1889; they brought in Clarke, a semipro player on the side, out of the stands to join the depleted team. He managed to nail two baserunners who attempted to take advantage of his lack of experience in right field by stretching singles into doubles and also made a fine catch on a foul ball. In three trips to the plate, he was hitless.

As an actor, he was part of a famous show business family and was a well-known stage actor of his time, touring overseas on a number of occasions.
