Biographical Information[edit]

Illinois native Harry Boyles spent five active seasons in professional baseball from 1936 to 1940.

Boyles pitched in eleven games for the Chicago White Sox. He appeared in nine games late in the 1938 season and lost all four of his decisions, pitching 29 1/3 innings and ending the year with a 5.22 ERA. He was back in 1939, again late in the year, appearing twice with no decisions but acquired a 10.80 ERA. As a big leaguer, he was 0-4 with a 5.79 ERA. Boyles spent the rest of his five-year career in the minor leagues with six different clubs in four different leagues. He never had a winning season, although he hit .500 twice, going 12-12 with a 3.13 ERA for the Longview Cannibals of the Class C East Texas League in 1938. He finished in baseball in 1940, going 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA, for the Fort Worth Cats of the Class A1 Texas League. Overall in the minors, he was 41-67 while pitching 631 innings in 164 games.

Boyles lived to be 93 years old, passing away on January 7, 2005 in McAllen, TX.
