Biographical Information

Pitcher Harold Gould played for the Negro League Philadelphia Stars from 1946 to 1948, seeing only a little playing time. One obituary credited him with a 19-4 record, presumably against non-league teams primarily. He was 10 for 37 with a double and three home runs for the 1948 Farnham Pirates of the Provincial League, playing under the assumed name Lawrence Morgan.

He later served in the Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated a welding company, was a zero-handicap golfer, a farmer, was vocational education director in the New Jersey penal system for six years and raised and trained thoroughbred horses. When Gould died, Mahlon Duckett was the last living member of the Stars; the Philadelphia Phillies had honored Gould, Duckett and (prior to their deaths) Bill Cash, Stanley Glenn and Wilmer Harris since 2005 to recognize local Negro League players.
