Biographical Information[edit]
Centerfielder Hank Perry played for the Detroit Tigers in 1912, a team on which the regular centerfielder Ty Cobb hit .409. Perry also played eleven seasons in the minors.
On April 16, 1912, Cobb had left the team after a fight with management about the hotel, so Perry was put in the lineup. He went 2-for-6 against the Chicago White Sox. Source: SABR Biography of Flame Delhi.
"OUTFIELDER PERRY, who led the Eastern League batsmen last year, is with trainer Tuthill at Monroe,La. . . President Navin has been told by all sorts of people that if Mr. Perry can shed about 30 pounds of grease he will surely develop into a second Sam Crawford. What would happen to opposing pitchers with Ty Cobb and two Sam Crawfords coming up in a row is a picture too sad to even contemplate." - Sporting Life, March 2, 1912
