Biographical Information

Guy LaValliere spent eight season in the minor leagues as a catcher. He spent time in the St. Louis Browns/Baltimore Orioles, and Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins chains. His son, Mike LaValliere, went on to become a major league catcher, mostly as a platoon player with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Guy LaValliere debuted in 1952 with the Wellsville Rockets, hitting .304/~.392/.406 in 28 games. He missed 1953-1954, presumably due to military service. Returning to the diamond in '55, Guy hit .333/?/.550 with 28 doubles for the Wytheville Statesmen, tying for third in the Appalachian League in two-baggers. During 1956, LaValliere hit .283 and slugged .357 for the Aberdeen Pheasants. In 1957, he batted .361/.448/.576 for the Phoenix Stars. He led Arizona-Mexico League backstops with 32 passed balls but also with 13 double plays. He had 100 runs, 110 RBI and 20 home runs. He was 6th in the league in average.

LaValliere hit .277/?/.370 with the 1958 Knoxville Smokies and .281 between two clubs in 1959. In 1960, he hit .248/.343/.340 for the Charlotte Hornets. He split 1961 between Charlotte (5 for 28, 2B, 3B, BB) and the Macon Peaches (.232/.327/.303). Overall, he had hit .296 with 50 home runs in 751 games in the minors.
