Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Gregg Ritchie was drafted in the 8th round of the 1986 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants. He played in the Giants chain from 1986 to 1992, reaching AAA Phoenix Firebirds from 1990 to 1992. Ritchie played in the Mexican League from 1992 to 1994, Taiwan in 1995 and for the Oklahoma City 89ers in 1995.
Ritchie was a hitting coach in the Chicago White Sox chain for ten years. He made stops with the Bristol Sox (1996-1997), Hickory Crawdads (1998), Birmingham Barons (2000-2003), Charlotte Knights (2003-2004) and Birmingham again (2005).
Ritchie moved to the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2006. He spent 5 seasons as Minor League hitting coordinator and in 2011 became the hitting coach for the big league Pirates. After the 2012 season Ritchie stepped down from the Pirates to become the head coach at his alma mater George Washington University. He coached for the USA when they won the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup.
