Biographical Information[edit]

Originally a pitcher, Greg Jacobs was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 23rd round of the 1997 amateur draft but did not sign. He was then taken by the Anaheim Angels in the 13th round of the 1998 amateur draft. He played four years in their organization, posting increasing ERAs in every season.

Jacobs joined the Long Beach Breakers of the independent Western Baseball League in 2002 and was converted to an outfielder. He went on to lead the league that summer with a .380 batting average and 91 RBI while hitting 18 home runs. This earned him a shot in the Seattle Mariners organization in 2003. Released by Seattle in 2005, he went on to spend a year and a half with the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League. He then played for the Reading Phillies in the Philadelphia Phillies chain in 2007, hitting .310 with 21 homers and earning a spot on the Eastern League All-Star squad. He was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization prior to the 2008 season and ended the year back with the T-Bones. He split the 2009 season between the T-Bones and the Mexican League.
