Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Grayson Long was selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 3rd round of the 2015 amateur draft. Three years earlier, in the 2012 amateur draft, he had been picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 39th round but had decided to go to college instead, heading to Texas A&M University.

He made his professional debut in 2015 with the Orem Owlz, hetting no decisions and a 5.03 ERA while pitching just 19 2/3 innings in 13 games (12 starts), as the Angels did not want him to pile on too many innings. In 2016, he was a combined 5-5, 3.18 for three teams, the AZL Angels, the Burlington Bees and the Inland Empire 66ers. He pitched 65 innings and struck out 70 batters. He started the 2017 season back with Inland Empire, where he went 0-2, 4.50 in 3 starts, then was promoted to the Mobile BayBears where he was 8-6, 2.52 in 23 starts. On August 31st, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers along with a player to be named later in return for All-Star OF Justin Upton.
