When the Australian Baseball League was formed in 1989-1990, Grant was with the Melbourne Monarchs, going 2-2 with a save and a 3.47 ERA. Both of wins came by shutout. After missing a year with injury, he was briefly with the Melbourne Bushrangers in 1991-1992 (1-1, 8.10 in 3 G) before injury again sidelined him. He had a 3-0, 3.97 record for the Monarchs in 1993-1994. He tossed 1 2/3 innings in 1994-1995 for Melbourne. He later was an occasional announcer for the Monarchs and the Toronto Blue Jays' scout in Australia and later the Los Angeles Angels. He signed Rich Thompson and Nick Kimpton. Weir managed the Australian team in the 2004 Women's Baseball World Cup, when the club lost the Bronze Medal Game to Canada. In 2008, Weir was appointed National Game Development Manager of the Australian Baseball Federation.
