Biographical Information[edit]

Glenn Crawford played twelve seasons of professional baseball after signing with the St. Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent before the 1939 season.

He spent most of his first five years (1939-1944) in the minors before making his major league debut with the Cardinals on April 22, 1945. Glenn appeared in four games for the Cardinals before being traded, along with John Antonelli, to the Philadelphia Phillies for Buster Adams. Crawford appeared in 82 games with the Phillies, seeing time in the outfield as well as at shortstop and second base. In 86 combined games, Glenn hit .292/.370/.367 while scoring 41 runs. The following year, he appeared in one game for the Phillies, went hitless in a lone at bat and, on April 22, 1946, one year to the day of his debut, was sent to the minor league Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League, never to return.

During Crawford's run in the minors, he hit .326 for the Duluth Dukes of the Class C Northern League in 1941. He also had a good year in 1947 when he hit .298 for the AAA Oakland Oaks of the PCL. In 1950, his next to last season, he hit .297 for the Augusta Tigers of the Class A South Atlantic League. Overall, he appeared in 1,214 games in his minor league career.

After baseball, Glenn returned to his native home in North Branch, MI, where he worked and lived until his death on January 2, 1972, aged 59.
