Biographical Information[edit]

Gil Garrido played three years in the Negro Leagues. As a teenager, he appeared for the Panamanian national team when they won the Silver Medal in the 1938 Central American and Caribbean Games. He had drawn attention in the 1943 Amateur World Series, when he led all players with 10 runs despite playing for last-place Panama. In 1944 in the Negro Leagues, he was a backup infielder for the New York Cubans. In 1945, he was the starting 2B for New York but only hit .150. In 1946, he played on occasion for the Cubans. His son, Gil Garrido, would later play in the major leagues.
