Biographical Information[edit]

German Panyushov was a Russian baseball player.

Panyushov was a Greco-Roman wrestler before switching to baseball. He was 4-2 with a 2.82 ERA for the 1992 White Wolves in the Russian League, fanning 47 in 38 1/3 IP but walking 27. He hit .333/.389/.500 and tied for the league lead with two homers. In 1994, he was 0-1 with a 9.69 ERA for SKA PVO and was 0 for 5 on offense. In '95, he improved to .341/.500/.463 for SKA PVO and posted a 1-0, 3.38 record, transitioning from pitching to the outfield.

In 1996, Panyushov hit .290/.444/.565 for CKSA PVO with 27 runs in 18 games. His four home runs tied for the league lead. He batted .269/.415/.308 in 1997. In 1998, he produced at a .345/.437/.473 clip. He played for the Russian national team in the 1998 Baseball World Cup, going 2 for 4 with a walk and a run as the backup to Alexander Koutun in RF. He was a bright spot on a team that hit .176/.237/.218 cumulatively.

With VVIA in 1999, he hit .377/.500/.672 with 26 runs and 28 RBI in 17 contests. He was 7th in the league in OPS, 8th in total bases (41), 6th in slugging, tied for 5th in RBI, tied for first in doubles (11), tied for 5th in walks (19), tied for 4th in extra-base hits (14) and 9th in runs (between Dmitry Golubev and Valeri Platonov). In the 1999 European Championship, he split LF with Dmitri Likhine and RF with Eugueni Beloussov. He hit .333/.313/.600 with 13 putouts, one assist and one error. He tied for the team lead in hits (5), led in extra-base hits (3), tied Ruslan Nabiev for the most RBI and was second in slugging (.067 behind Platanov). For the tourney, he tied Glen Buckley for 11th in slugging.

Russian League stats after 2000 are harder to track down. Through 1999, he had hit .320/.448/.468 with 99 runs and 88 RBI in 107 Russian League games. As a pitcher, he had gone 5-3 with a 4.11 ERA in 20 outings, striking out 73 and walking 63 in 70 innings.
