Biographical Information[edit]
George Pearce, like Cy Williams, played for the Chicago Cubs after their great 1906-1910 years and before their pennant-winning 1918 season. Pearce and Williams were the same age. Pearce was with the Cubs from 1912-1916 while Williams was with them from 1912 to 1917.
Pearce's best year was in 1913 when he went 13-5 with an ERA that was fifth-best in the National League.
After being with the Cubs for five years, Pearce spent part of 1917 with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he was eight years older than the young Cardinals shortstop Rogers Hornsby.
George is one of nine major leaguers (through 2007) with the last name Pearce, although he was actually born Pierce. Harry Pearce was a near-contemporary of George, breaking in at the end of the 1917 season.
