George Bennett

Biographical Information[edit]

George Bennett won over 500 games as a college coach.

Bennett was assistant coach at Upper Darby High School from 1963-1972 and was their athletic director from 1972-1980; he also taught social studies and human behavior for the school. From 1981-1984, he was 68-53-3 at St. Joseph's University, coaching Jamie Moyer there. He then went 463-324-6 at Villanova University from 1986-2001, after spending 1985 as assistant coach there. He won Big East Conference Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1993. He missed making the 1989 College World Series by one game, one of two years Villanova went to the NCAA Tournament under Bennett. He coached Gary Scott, Rafael Novoa, Mike Porzio, Gene Schall and Mike Neill at Villanova. Villanova retired his number 6.
