Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder George Alpert was taken 13th overall in the 1981 amateur draft by the Cleveland Indians, one pick ahead of pitcher Jim Winn. He spent three years in the minor leagues and never played above Single A.

He got off to a rough start in 1980, hitting .214/.268/.298 with 49 strikeouts and only 54 hits in 67 games for the Batavia Trojans. He set a career-high in batting average the next year, batting .219/.279/.316 with 70 strikeouts and 65 hits in 93 games for the Waterloo Indians. With Waterloo in 1983, he hit .210/.286/.355 with 15 strikeouts and 13 hits in 19 games. Overall, he batted .216/.275/.313 with 132 hits, 21 doubles, 10 home runs, 59 RBI, 79 runs, 49 walks and 134 Ks in 611 at-bats over 179 games.
