Biographical Information[edit]

Gene McArtor was a college coach for 21 years.

McArtor led the University of Missouri in RBI as a senior; he was the team captain. The school made it to the College World Series in 1962 and 1963 during his time as a player. He was a first baseman.

In 1969, he returned to the school for his PhD and became an assistant coach. He took over the reigns in 1974 and led the program until 1994, winning two Big 8 Conference titles. He was Chair of the NCAA Baseball Committee from 1987-1991 and was President of the American Baseball Coaches Association in 1991. He was 733-430-3 in his career and made the ABCA Hall of Fame in 1993. He coached several players with major league futures, most notably Phil Bradley, Tim Laudner, Dave Otto and Dave Silvestri. He coached Team USA in the 1986 Amateur World Series.
