Team History[edit]
After the 1989 season the San Francisco Giants withdrew their affiliation with the Pioneer League team from Pocatello, ID. The club then changed its name from the Pocatello Giants to the Gate City Pioneers. Manager Ed Creech was on loan from the Montreal Expos system, as were some marginal prospects, and the team went 15-55, worst in the circuit. They drew 20,926 fans, second-worst. A 6.22 team ERA was over a point worse than the next team, the Medicine Hat Blue Jays. Steve Renko III was their top player, at 3-4, 3.92. The next season they were renamed the Pocatello Pioneers.
